There are few places better to spend the cold winter months than sunny Newport Beach, California! Lady Washington just completed her visit to Newport Sea Base to coincide with the annual Christmas Boat Parade, and she will be joined by Hawaiian Chieftain for a return trip their this month. While in town, guests will have an opportunity to take part in a very special event we are calling the Beyond the Porthole: High Seas Quest in partnership with our friends at Discovery Cube’s Ocean Quest.

Discovery Cube Ocean Quest is one of the museums of the Discovery Science Foundation, a non-profit educational institution that creates interactive experiences with science for children and families. On Sat. Jan. 26th and Sun. Jan. 27th, Hawaiian Chieftain will head to Ocean Quest’s guest dock and offer a fun set of dockside tours and activities from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM. This all-ages family event is meant to reach the youngest learners, aged 6 and under, but all will enjoy what we have planned!

Guests who buy admission to Discovery Cube’s Ocean Quest (600 E Bay Ave, just beside the Balboa Island ferry) will be able to explore the museum –including their Science of Sailing exhibition– as well as come aboard for special tours of Hawaiian Chieftain. Kids and families will get to see the vessel and its instruments, interact with the nautical objects of traditional sailing, and try on historical clothing. As a special bonus, Ocean Quest has designed an all new maritime quest for kids to take part in during the day.

Discovery Cube's Ocean Quest in Newport Beach, California provides interactive, hands-on, educational experiences for guests of all ages helping them gain an understanding of the ocean while simultaneously developing the explorer within. Ocean Quest offers field trips for students starting at only $12 per person.

This hands-on visit is a one-of-a-kind experience in partnership with Grays Harbor Historical Seaport. And if you’re looking for more to do after the High Seas Quest, you don’t have to look far! Discovery Cube’s Ocean Quest is located right in the heart of the Balboa Fun Zone and all of Newport Beach’s favorite waterfront attractions. And don’t forget, you can still buy tickets to a sail aboard Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain in Newport Beach! The tall ship’s sails will still take place from out of Newport Sea Base on the other side of the harbor.
