Historical Seaport moves Seaport Landing—our ships’ new home port facility—to next level
|
|
Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain need a new home port in Grays Harbor. For several years, the Historical Seaport has worked with the local community on Seaport Landing, a facility planned for underused shoreline in South Aberdeen. The project is proceeding with renewed vigor, starting with a public meeting last November, a new web page, a logo contest, and a crucial gift from a Seattle architectural firm. See the stories below for more details.

New Seaport Landing renderings, elevations unveiled at public meeting
The Historical Seaport unveiled new artists’ renderings and elevations for Seaport Landing at a public meeting last November at the Aberdeen Elks. More than 40 people heard GHHSA Executive Director Capt. Les Bolton and Tony Halekakis of the GHHSA Board of Directors update Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain supporters about the ships’ new home port facility, which is currently in the design stage. Enthusiasm ran so high that more than $7,000 was contributed to the project on the spot. You can review the latest drawings and donate directly to Seaport Landing by visiting the Seaport Landing page on the Historical Seaport website.
Seattle architectural firm Miller|Hull donates services to Seaport Landing project
Leading Seattle architectural firm The Miller|Hull Partnership has pledged support for a two-day workshop this month that will result in a refined vision for Seaport Landing. Attended by Historical Seaport staff, board members, and guests, the workshop will result in visual materials and interpretative plans useful for preparing cost projections, requests for proposals for architectural and engineering services, and initiating the permitting process. The donation is part of the firm’s commitment to the “1% Project,” a nationwide effort for architects who have pledged one percent of their annual income to public interest work.
Got an idea for a logo? Submit it to the Seaport Landing Logo Design Contest!
Seaport Landing needs a visual identity to support fundraising and communications efforts. That’s why the Historical Seaport is sponsoring a logo design contest. If you have an artistic bent or a flair for design, visit the Seaport Landing web page for rules and an entry form. Prizes include gift certificates for three-hour sailings and one-week trips on Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain. The public will get a chance to select a winner from the finalists. The deadline for entry is February 2, 2009.
